Adapting Kawasaki Motorcycles for the European Market
THE PROBLEM
Despite the wide range of motorcycle models offered, KL Service reported the need to create a high-performance Enduro model specifically for the European market with a 300cc displacement.
The client’s request was for a versatile motorcycle that combined the handling of a 250cc with the power of a 450cc, allowing road use without compromising off-road performance.
New Big Bore Engine Group
THE SOLUTION
To address this challenge, Athena collaborated with the client, using the Kawasaki KX 250 X model, already known for its off-road performance, as a starting point.
To increase the motorcycle’s power and versatility, Athena identified the need to introduce a specific enlarged engine group. Athena’s Big Bore cylinder, developed by the company’s technicians, is distinguished by the steel liner co-fused inside the cylinder’s aluminum.
This innovative co-fusion process offers several advantages over traditional solutions, such as achieving a cylinder bore of Ø85 mm, ensuring OE-level performance combined with absolute reliability.
This technology also provides excellent heat transfer and efficient mechanical gripping to prevent reciprocal sliding between the liner and cylinder body even after many hours of use, offering riders greater peace of mind and security in all conditions.
Drawing on its extensive industry experience, Athena also provided the client with gaskets and pistons made with cutting-edge technologies, reaffirming its commitment to offering complete and high-level solutions to its customers’ needs.
